Beat This is pleased to announce that we have received funding that will allow us to train up to twenty music practitioners!

The NLDC (Neighbourhood learning in deprived communities ) has approved funding for Beat This to turn willing musicians into fully fledged music practitioners, that will provide adults in creatively deprived areas with music opportunities.

Training starts in December, with trainees learning how to run a workshop, how to use music technology and how to work successfully with other adults. The trainees will learn the theory behind music workshops as well as learn hands on with the chance to create their own music workshops focused around the music genres they love.

“We need more practitioners to expand the company, Beat This needs to expand so we can reach key demographics we have been missing and local areas that haven’t received as much attention as they should have. We want to grow as a business, and we can only grow by bringing fresh new skills.”

“This is a lot like skill swapping, we offer training for the skills of the musicians. We want them to pass on those skills to others so that they can experience music and enjoy creative opportunities. This is what Beat This is all about, we can’t wait to get started on this project.”

Lee Ashton (Director)

Training is completely free, so if you’re a musician, employed or unemployed and you want to share your skills then please get in touch! This is your chance to make a difference and share your skills.

Beat This CIC is pleased to announce a new addition to its team of directors.

George Barrett (although you may know him as Exodus Pain) has generously volunteered to become a director joining Ben Turner and Lee Ashton. Only joining Beat This CIC as a music practitioner just six months ago he has already committed to becoming further involved with all aspects of Beat This.

Bringing his own unique skills to Beat This, George already has plans for new creative sessions and intends to run a series of workshops focusing on hip hop.

“I wanted to become more involved with Beat This CIC. As a director I now have the ability to give more, I have lots of ideas that I can’t wait to start make happening. I want to provide sessions that focus mainly on hip hop and provide further creative opportunities to those without them. “

Beat This would like to give a warm welcome to George and also announce that we are looking for more generous people just like George who would be willing to give up their time and donate their skills becoming practitioners or directors.

If any of you would like to contribute to Beat This in any way the support would be appreciated! You would be helping provide creative opportunities to Peterborough youth.

For the budding artists out there who just can’t wait to get yourselves heard, Beat This CIC suggest you take a look at the website www.soundclick.com

It’s a great way to get yourselves out there and connected to other artists just like you, who have a genuine love of music and want you to listen to their tracks and give your opinion.

Soundclick also allows you to listen to beats and music from all over the world, music produced by signed and unsigned artists. You can also buy music from any artists whose music you take a fancy to, and comment on anything you’ve liked or disliked.

The ‘rent a musician’ feature on the site is also a handy way of finding local artists if you wanted to book and band for a party or just get some people together for a jamming session.

If you have any music that you want other people to listen and comment on then this is the way to be heard!

They have forums so you can discuss and make contact with other artists, it’s basically an online community of people who love music (almost a Facebook for artists) There is also the ability to listen to the most popular music from around the world, and watch the most popular music videos.

Fancy doing something a bit different on the web, then go check it out!

Fentracks, Beat This CIC’s creative project that aimed to bring music technology services to areas of Cambridge without them has been a massive success.

Beat This was so impressed with the masses of talent that the attendees had, and were also thrilled with the three covers and two original tracks produced, not to mention the fantastic artwork for the CD covers designed in the workshops by the young people who came. You should all be really proud of yourselves and your creative products.

Due to how busy everyone and Beat This is, the final performance where the attendees get to perform what they have produced has been postponed, however Beat This CIC are looking at arranging the performance for around Christmas to see off 2011 in style! So keep your eyes on this blog and our newsletter for more information.

We’d like to thank Whittlesey Youth Centre, Whisbech St Mary’s Youth Centre and Young People March Centre for having Beat This CIC this Spring as well as all the people who took part in the workshops.

Thank you everyone!
